[Probably the last one I'm tossing up here, but I need to do more with this nerd so here she is. My usual disclaimer applies: pretty much open to anything - gen or shippy. poke me first if you want mature things.

If she's a mer, she's probably some type of healer-slash-nerdy-thing with a healthy interest in humans/the surface but almost zero ambition to go there during times when she might be discovered.

If she's a human, she's likely a doctor or similar who spends as much time in/around the water as she can because she's always been a water-baby.

Nike is sixteen years old, even though she looks like an adult physically. I don't mind aging her up to 20 as her AU self.

As a mer, she is actually a siren with the power to control the weather and attract those to her. She is either 1) a princess, 2) a high priestess, or 3) a guardian of a secret city -- be it mer or magical humans. She is curious, meddlesome, and prone to justice; however can be very naive about the world outside her duties because they kept her in the dark.

As a human, she is an island child with interest in the ocean and has a habit of singing as a way to relieve stress or practice. She is very open to having mer friends too. Maybe she visits the ocean a lot to meet with them in secret.

[Sailing isn't really one of Emmett's great loves, but he has enough of an interest in it to be willing to try. There are supposed to be some fantastic sights in the beyond, after all, so once the course is mapped out, he sets sail.

All appears to go well at first, and he's happy enough, but then he encounters some turbulent sea he didn't plan for. Not to worry, he's got this under control---barely, but that's when the worst of the storm starts. There's something almost unreal about how it barreled in out of nowhere, and it's frightening.

He grips the sail and prays, using every technique he knows to stay afloat, but it isn't long before he's tossed overboard and set adrift, struggling to stay afloat---by the time it finally calms, he's a sodden white lump on a piece of driftwood, alive but looking a little under the weather.

With what little strength he has, he lifts his head just lightly to look. What was that?]

[The seas are usually calm for the most part, wherever it was close to land, as it was an area no intelligent creature would wonder into. So much so, there are moments that these very mysterious creatures would migrate a generous amount of fish to piers to keep them from wandering too far.However, no matter how much they offer, there are humans that use the sea as their refuge to escape from their misdeeds. These are the people that need to be brought to justice if the land dwellers are unable to do so.

Sirens are the very creatures given that simple task. Be it by destroying their ships or allowing the land dwellers to die by their own two hands. In Nike's case, however, she much prefer for the weather and ocean to clean the very scum off her precious world.

She has used her spell many times before. Countless in the last century. Even so, she was still a very young siren that was given the task a little too early due to her innate talent and personal connections to the royalty of the mer-kingdom. Mistakes were prone to be made. Such as missing the lone boat that was in the area, who had nothing to do with the pirates trespassing into the area of the mer-kingdom -- well, to be fair, the other fellow was trespassing; however with those overly adventurous or easily lost types, she wouldn't use her weather powers, rather she would use her hypnosis on them.

Unfortunately she hadn't seen where the man had approached from, due to the raging storm, and was running out of time because he had fallen off his ship and having trouble remaining upright. Quickly, the young siren will approach the fellow, cautiously and keeping some distance between them, however he may be able to notice someone close by, especially once a song can be heard. Using her voice to manipulate the waves and wind to keep the fellow afloat while allowing the tides to lead him to the nearest island. In this case, he was being taken to the mysterious island of legends. It'll take some time, but they will arrive to the shore once the sun begins to rise over the horizon.

The siren will remain silent, watching over her passenger, wondering if he was alive or needed any additional assistance, as she kept herself hidden in a nearby boulder.]

Explorations

[Okay, so maybe this was one of his riskier adventures. But the whole point of being out at sea was to explore, wasn't it? To see rare and new sights? So of course he can't help but to want to try go somewhere new. A new direction he hadn't been in, further out than before.

He just hadn't thus anticipated the obvious chances of getting lost. But this is. Fine, probably? He hoped. He just had to turn around and come back the way he came. In theory. Yuu spots a cave and makes his way in, settling the ship in the shallower waters and tying it to secure it before he glanced around, wondering where this was.]

Now where am I? Might as well take a look around.

[For explorers to get lost out of sea, it was quite common to find, especially within lone voyagers. Those were usually the types that weren't targeted by the more experience sirens to cause them to crash. Usually, the pirate vessels or military ships were the true targets due to the heavy amount of people on them -- whom could never find the sacred island. The home of the nearby mer-kingdoms and other magical creatures of the sea, land, or skies.

The young siren was given the task to watch over the lone voyager as her first lone mission. One without her sisters to guide her in. She had to do it on her own. Which she was feeling very anxious over, but...it had to be done!

Unfortunately, the boy had found the island, and was in the outer portions of it, by the shore, but fortunately he wasn't in the most mystical aspects of the island. The cave was usually a trap in the high tide, but he had found it on time. Hiding from his sight, she will attempt to climb onto the land, with her fin remaining by the water as she begins to sing a song for it to echo the cave walls, leading him into the entrance if he were curious enough to come and find her; hopefully without her fins and more as an island girl washing her feet and singing.]

Stranded/Rescue

[Of course, one with such status and reputation as he had, it required traveling to meet others and negotiate agreements and the like on occasion. Which was what was supposed to happen, in Livius heading out from his kingdom to meet with another to broker a trade agreement together. Only, that didn't quite end up happening. His ship got caught in a storm, leaving the crew to scramble for the lifeboats, and Livius ending up getting pulled into one with them only to fall out when they toppled over from another wave.

Leaving him to attempt to keep himself afloat, to try and fail in keeping his head above water, there not having exactly been the most opportunities to learn to swim in a kingdom without rain. He tries to cling to the broken boards of wood from the ship, only to eventually slip from how damp it is, from the waves crashing into him.]

[The sudden storm was an abrupt summoning from an outrage elder after learning of a ship travelling through their territory without permission. From the way the meeting had gone, they knew the identity of the ship and those on it too. World King or not, the seas were not under his domain, and he had no right to travel above them as though he were in the same level as the Dragon God.

As much as Nike agreed with the elder's viewpoint, she still didn't find the rash decision to be fair in the slightest. It wasn't as though they were pirates or a military ship prying in their area to use to hide away their loot and whatnot. She needed more information about them!

It was the only reason she can be found in the area. Watching the chaos above her, witnessing her elder's massive abilities, but what she found to be incredible was the sudden appearance of a drowning child having fallen overboard. He was so small! It was enough encouragement to have her use the wind to rise the boy back towards the broken piles of floating wood coming from the ship. Maybe it may be best to find a bigger piece for him to be on instead?

The siren will begin to desperately search the area for bigger pieces until deciding to take matters into her own hands by using the wind to cut a bigger piece of floating wood, almost the size of a door, to take back to the boy, which she accomplishes by using her powers for the tide to offer it to him. Maybe it'll protect him from the harsh waves? All she can do was watch and pray he could rise onto the wood on his own.]

You got here because there was some kind of gate and you were curious or foolish enough to touch the weird energies within and be whisked away into deep, dark water. You were almost drowning when some warm slimy sea serpent kind of thing bit you and blacked you out.

Now you wake to a cold, clawed touch. The water is very dark, with particulate and tiny animals drifting through the ruddy light cast by a mermaid with throat-lures and bioluminescent spots and a look of utter fascination, that she visibly tries to tamp down into cool interest.

She speaks and it sounds weird, complex, lots of staccato noises and controlled shrieks, but the meaning comes through while she's touching you. "Don't try to breathe. My wyrm will do that for you. I'm a Je'daii alchemist. I can keep you alive until we reach the right atmosphere."

By the way, some kind of huge eel-like fish(?) is latched in on you real good. It's some four-eyed thing with a handful of hollow teeth like blood-drawing needles, rippling its fins, its gill slits and odd breathing pores constantly moving to pump water through its system, reoxygenating the blood that it cycles back into you. Probably a bad idea to pry that off. It has no bioluminescence; past the light the alchemist casts the length of its body is impossible to determine.

At least it doesn't hurt.

A lesser woman would have panicked, cursed, screamed, and as it is, Morag's eyes burn with barely contained rage. She doesn't know what to make of this situation yet, but she can gather that it is not in her favor. She's had worse, but that doesn't help her mood any.

She doesn't speak, but the look on her face says everything. What have you done to me?

There are a few small changes, so the water doesn't burn eyes and lungs and nasal tissue. There's probably between-fingers webbing. The main thing is really that serpent, the warmth of it. It seems like the only really warm thing down here.

Lanoree nods, her hair arranging itself like abstract sculpture. She radiates smugness as she says, "I've kept you alive. If you don't like that, I can tell my wyrm to let go." It would be a terrible shame to lose the first survivor, of course. It's not like people arrive here often, and she might have strewn wyrms about tasked with finding and attaching themselves to struggling creatures but they're not the only life down here. "Oh, don't worry. Get to air and I can undo it all. There won't even be a scar."

Probably. It's hard to completely, cleanly replace damaged tissue without some mark.

She had been in this tank for longer than she could recall. The water was fine. This man - she believed he called himself Gabriel - seemed to know more than the average human rightfully should about mer-persons. She strongly suspected he had, had another before or still did. There seemed to be a secondary tank so where far off but it was too far away for Marinette to see or sense the presence of another mer.

It wasn't that she couldn't survive here. The tank was clean, water just so, food was provided that was exactly what she would have ate in the wild. But it was lonely. Mer-people didn't do well in isolation as was evidenced by the changing coloration of her fin scales. They were turning from a soft rosy pink to red. She swam closer to the edge of the tank and slammed her small hands against the glass giving a scream of frustration; the force sent a vibration through the glass sending the un-anchored ladder that had been leaned against the glass falling with a mighty clatter.

It was a small petty victory that served no real purpose other than being a mild inconvenience for her captor. But in the moment? It was a tiny act of rebellion that she could do - staying away from the glass was another. She took a great sense of pleasure in swimming away from the glass as Gabriel came in - anytime he came in withdrawing to the little haven she'd made for herself from the corals, plants and rocks that the human had put in the tank for her.

He would've liked to say that things had been better between himself and his father since the last time they'd spoken. But he could say it until he was blue in the face, and that wouldn't make it true. The simple truth of the matter was that Gabriel had checked out on him years ago, had found something more worthwhile with which to occupy himself, and no matter what Adrien did, nothing seemed to change.

They'd been happy once, the three of them. He'd figured that things would be like that forever, even if it wasn't quite perfect. But then they'd lost his mother and Gabriel had changed. Maybe Adrien had changed, too. Without his wife's influence, Gabriel went a little mad. Nobody could blame him, though, because nobody should have to lose the one they love.

By the time he'd made it to the door he'd seen his father disappearing into numerous times in the past, there was a loud crash from the other side. Adrien froze for a minute, trying to hear what was going on. Why was this door here, anyway? What had Gabriel done now?

Apparently, he'd forgotten to lock the door. Adrien blinked down at the knob in his hand because it almost screamed trap. But that was ridiculous. Right?

Shrugging it off, he let himself in through the door and made sure to close it behind him. His eyes widened slightly as he took a look around, because this room made no sense. Why his father needed a room with two large tanks of water, he had no idea, but he was going to guess it wasn't anything rational. He couldn't even see any fish and apparently the tanks were falling apart, if the ladder lying on its side was any indication.

"What have you done now?" The odds of getting an answer from an empty room were just about the same as if he'd asked Gabriel himself, and that wasn't terribly comforting. In the meantime, he approached the closest tank, the one off to the right side of the room. There weren't any fish, and that was probably what bothered him the most. Why keep the tanks if they're just going to sit empty?
