You've been cordially invited...

It's been over three years since Kuroo Tetsurou and Tsukishima Kei first started going out, not too long after the reticent blond joined the former in the same college. Not a fact that they've been blaring from the rooftops, but something that neither have really hidden, either, especially after they moved in together around half a year into the relationship. The casual mention in conversation, the pictures and statuses on social media- it's never been a secret.

Still. For some, a few months ago, the wedding invitation coming in the mail was no doubt a surprise.

It's a western style wedding, to the surprise of no one. Traditional style just isn't in the budget for a pair of college students still working hard on their degrees, even with the help of their respective families. That means a quick ceremony before going elsewhere for reception, something made a lot easier by the fact that the ceremony isn't far from the hotel where the reception had been booked. Don't ask what witchcraft or connections the two of them managed for that.

Unsurprising considering the care both grooms can show off when it suits them, the reception area is classy, awash in cool colors with pale white lights guiding people to the various tables where placecards let them know who sits where. Of course, for the main wedding party consisting of the happy couple, their family, and the best men (Bokuto and Yamaguchi, to the surprise of no one), there's a table right at the front of it all where the light is brightest.

And not just because the new couple seem so happy about it all, either.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the food which gets served out, the only tradition being sekihan while everything is a mix of Japanese and European recipes. Enjoy it all- this place is well practiced in holding wedding receptions, and so the food is pretty good, not to mention the open bar for the adults in attendance.

Of course, no wedding would be complete without a cake, white chocolate and strawberries put together expertly. Special attention to the toppers (at least before a certain groom steals the top portion away, and thus them with it): a small plastic black cat that looks extraordinarily pleased that's in direct contrast to the offensively yellow and inaccurate rubber stegosaurus besides it.

For those who don't have two left feet (or maybe even them if they simply don't care), a space has been cleared out and illuminated in the center while music plays. Newlyweds get the first dance, obviously, but after that, it's anyone's game, and you're more than free to make requests to the DJ.

It's a wedding. Enjoy yourselves, congratulate the couple, try not to get too drunk.

[There might be no one more surprised about this union than Kei, but after since walking into place, exchanging vows and the slide of gold onto each of their fingers... He's amazed to find that he's actually pretty zen about it all. Or, rather, he'll be amazed later, in the privacy of their apartment again, and not while he's still living out the moment as it's happening. They'd officially changed his name a while ago, since that's really all you need to be considered legally married, but simple paperwork hadn't felt real.]

[In the years since he first started high school all the way up until this moment, Kei has changed a little bit. The usual things that happen, when you take your lumps as a teenager and grow up into an adult (or at least, someone pretending to be an adult, and still fumbling along): a little more mature, a little better at working with people, all of that. Hell, the fact that he's getting married says legions about it as it is, considering how he'd always been a little leery (to put it lightly) about making commitments even though he'd managed to overcome it about things like volleyball. Sure, he's still ultimately himself with a sharp mind and a sharp tongue, but he's a little better in a lot of areas.]

[However, the small and actually genuine smile he has on his face seems leaps and bounds from how he normally is at any other moment. He doesn't even notice it, probably, but it's there, and maybe never so strong as when he's glancing at his new husband.]

A - /casual nerd screeching (Pre-Vows)

[Of course, before he's gone down the aisle, Kei can be found quietly flipping his shit in the small waiting area for grooms, pacing back and forth and looking nervous as all hell although he's clearly doing his damnedest to keep it in check... which means it must be horrendously bad if it's getting past even his ability to aggressively repress his emotions.]

[Feel free to approach him, although if you're not someone particularly close, he might just rebuff you.]

B - wow I wonder who chose the cake (reception, dinner)

[It's still sort of amusing to him, to pick something like sekihan- is that kind of old wives' tale really important to keep up with in these days? But, on one hand, if they had to have anything traditional, something pink definitely matches the cake.]

[The top of which he absolutely absconded with, shamelessly smirking when Kuroo- Tetsurou, now, he guesses, since he has the same name himself- had laughed at him. He hasn't eaten it yet, since there's still the main courses to go through, but boy, is he waiting for it. Feel free to heckle him while he's at the table, however. Or congratulate him. Or be bewildered at the undeniably fond looks he's sending that stegosaurus toy, despite his long history of being exasperated by inaccuracy in dinosaur toys.]

C - groom bothering (general catch all)

[He's the groom- you can find him just about anywhere or easy to bother. Alternatively, you can bother him after the wedding at some point. I'm willing and flexible for a lot of things. I'm also good for doing prose, and anyone doing multiple threads with me. LET'S GO WILD, HELL YEAH]

[For a wedding this small and intimate, it's been surprisingly hard to find a good time to approach the grooms and congratulate them on their union -- or, more likely, some of Asahi's teenage anxiety still lingers in him as an adult, and the crowd around the happy couple has been the real deterrent. But he's truly happy for them both, and especially proud of Tsukishima -- or, Kuroo-san, now. That's going to be hard to adjust to.

He remembers Kei as he was when they first met; cruelly antagonistic, purposely pushing the buttons that would incite the wrong kind of fire in his teammates for his own amusement. He remembers Kei changing, subtly, after their training camp in Tokyo, and growing so much more after that. He remembers the final match of the Spring High qualifiers, when they were up against Shiratorizawa and their unstoppable ace, and how Kei was the one who won the match for Karasuno with his critical eye and quick thinking. Some of the greatest memories Asahi has come from that time; going to Nationals in his last year of high school with a team of people he loved -- and he has Kei to thank for that.

This is the thought he holds onto as he braves the crowd and approaches his former kouhai, who towers above him now more than ever.]

Congratulations, Kuroo-san.

[It actually takes him a second to connect that name with himself, and he glances to Asahi with an overly exasperated sigh like a second ago he wasn’t smiling to himself in a manner that’s, frankly, kind of embarrassing.]

Don’t say that too often in front of him. He’s getting way too into it.

It’s nice to see you again, Asahi-san.

I thought that's what you wanted to go by? [He asked a bit sheepishly.] How about just Kei-san? It's good to see you too; you look really incredible today.

Well, can you imagine him being called Tsukishima Tetsurou? This was the easier way.

[And totally not anything to do with sentiment.]

Anyway… That’s fine, and thanks. It’d be a little embarrassing if I didn’t look halfway decent at my own wedding, right?

Actually, I think he would like that. Or maybe I just am used to having an alliterative name, so I don't mind it.

But you always look at least halfway decent; today you're just... more. I think it's the smile.

[For a second, he almost looks like an awkward teenager again, nose scrunching up and shoulders rising a little higher.]

It’s just a smile… It’s not that weird or anything.

[Someone hasn’t seen himself in the mirror lately.]

[Asahi can't help but chuckle into his hand, even though it's bad manners to laugh at the groom at his own wedding.]

How often did you ever used to smile, Kei?

You say it like I never did it before. Didn’t I smile plenty of times when we attended school together?

[What do you mean devious pointed smirks and guffawing weren’t really smiles…]

Smirks don't count. I mean smiles like this one. [He clarifies, gesturing to Tsukishima's current expression.]

It’s just been stressful setting all of this up. Now I don’t have to worry about wedding planning. Honestly, it’s the worst.
