[His stitches were much better than any he'd really done before. Guess it helped there was some motivation... he didn't want the poor Spirit possibly scarred.]

[In a moment, it was done. He could knot and cut the string, looking at his handiwork.]

Alright... [He glanced up at her with a smile, but then turned to his kit. Another clean pad, some waterpoof tape, and he covered the stitches up.] It'll be a while, but you should heal up just fine.

... Time to dress your other wounds. [The smaller ones would, fortunately, require just a little cleaning and bandaging.]

[She winced a bit, letting out a faint hiss as the clean pad and tape was applied, but soon enough she was staring down at her newly-patched skin. She turned to him, her expression filled with wonder and awe.]

[She did her best to stand still as he cleaned the rest of her wounds, though she did gasp and squirm whenever one needed to be disinfected. But soon enough she was patched up, blood no longer flowing from her injuries. She was still sore, still in pain, but... but she felt safer.]

[She looked at him properly, her fins raising a bit despite her desire to slump down and curl up in the strange enclosure he'd put her in.]

...Thank you.

[There's twitching, but she was doing much better than before. In no time at all was she cleaned up and her wounds covered. He managed to disinfect her wounds, but... he didn't know how long she'd been out there. He'd have to keep an eye on her in case she got sick.]

[... He blinked and looked up, surprised that she had spoken.]

... You're welcome. How are you feeling now? I was going to get you more water, but are you hungry?

[She shook her head at his questions. Her gaze drifted down to her bandages, stark white popping against the crimson scales.]

It... still hurts. But I'm okay. [She looked up at him.] How did you do that without magic?

That's good.

[He was glad she wasn't in pain.] Oh... well, these are medicines. Humans have learned over time ways to stop pain and infections by mixing chemicals together. Even the thread I used to close your injury is special because it will disappear over time.

[Chemicals... was that what humans called their potions now? It was hard to believe; she would have needed a vast store of salves and seaweed to keep the wound cleaned and covered, and even then she wasn't sure if it would leave nasty scars along her scales.]

[Her eyes widened and she looked back down at the bandaged area where the stitches had been put in.] They'll disappear?? [She had never heard such a thing. Her tail flicked, and she looked up at him again.]

What's going to happen to me now?

Yeah. They're made to disappear over time as your body heals. It saves me from having to remove them later. [And that process wasn't any funner than getting them in.]

Well, I want to give you a day to heal and recover. If your injuries look better, I'll let you go back in the ocean.

You'll let me go?

[Marinette fidgeted, a frown settling on her face. He would just let her go? That simply? It seemed too simple, too easy. Her fins flared up a bit.]

Just like that? I don't have anything on me, if you're looking for a reward.

[He frowned, looking confused.]

I don't want a reward... You needed help.

...Humans don't just do things to be nice.

[Even those who had worshipped the merfolk as gods had done so to earn favours or blessings. She shrunk back in the tub a bit, taking on a defensive state. Would the human try anything? She'd spilled enough blood, he could collect that if he really wanted.]

Yeah... that sounds like a good number of people.

[Which was true... Still, closing the kit and putting it away, he picked up his bucket again.]

Anyway, I'll be back with some more water to replace what's in the tub.

[Marinette watched him carefully, and didn't reply as he picked up the bucket. When he left the bathroom she let out a shuddering sigh, fins drooping. Carefully, she ran a webbed hand over the bandages, feeling their odd texture.]

[He had done this... gone out of his way to help her. He didn't deny that humans could be greedy, but... Did he truly want nothing?]

[It doesn't take too long for him to return, the bucket a little bit fuller. After all, the first filling was to keep her moist - that water had turned red. So, letting it down the drain, he blocked it again in order to fill the tub with clean sea water.]

If you need more, tell me, okay? Also, I'm still not sure what you eat.

[Marinette watches him as he comes back in, draining the red water in the tub and re-filling it. Where did it all go? Back to the ocean? Though still suspicious, she did watch the exchange with wonder in her eye.]

...Fish, or whatever we can find. Seaweed, oysters, clams...

Oh... Well, I have plenty of that.

[He flashed her a smile.]

Do you want it raw or cooked?

Cooked?

[She blinked at him, confused.]

What's the difference?

... Right, you wouldn't know what that is.

[Considering his options... he nodded.]

Do you know if you're bad with any spices?

Um... We can handle seaweed fine.

[She wasn't very familiar with the foods that were available to landwalkers. So, spices? She didn't even know any off of the top of her head.]

... Okay, it'll take a few minutes, but I'll be back.

[He'll be light on the spices, but he'd prepare her two versions of fish. First, a cooked and lightly seasoned fillet, and second, a cleaned but still raw fillet. With both plates, he comes back in a few minutes as promised.]

Alright, I have one cooked and one raw fillet for you to try.

[Oh, he's gone. Marinette watched him leave, but then settles into the tub. She spent some time watching the painting and could hear him moving about in the next room, but after some time she merely sank back into the tub, trying to get some rest.]

[When he came back, she perked up, catching a strangely pleasant scent. She watched him approach with the two prepared fish, surprised.]

O-Oh! You... you brought me fish?

[Did she really not... well, no, that's a silly question. There was no reason for her to trust him right now.]

Ah, nevermind...

Anyway, the cooked one is lightly seasoned. If you don't like it, don't worry about trying to finish it. Also, it's still a little warm so be careful. [He would've brought a fork for her, but that would be another hurdle that she probably didn't want or need right now.]

W-Well...

[She's... somewhat familiar with the way humans made their food. She tried to stay away from the surface, but on occasion she'd see a few of them in fishing boats or on the beach, using fire on the fish before eating it. It had always seemed like a strange ritual to her, but now that she smells it, she can't help but draw herself forward, fins raising in interest.]

And I can have both?

[He nodded, smiling.]

If you want both, they're yours.

[He prepared them for her after all.]

[Marinette looked between him and the fish, as if testing to see whether his words were true or not. Soon, slowly, she reached a webbed hand out, hesitating before she snatched at the piece of cooked fish. She pulled it closer and took a small bite... before her eyes widened and her fins raised upright. Letting out a pleased chirr, she began to scarf down the fish in earnest, fangs flashing as she gobbled it up.]

[He watched her quietly, wondering how she would react to the cooked fish... and then his eyes widened as she woofed it down. He saw fangs - she had fangs... They're kinda cute. Wait, what?]
