[Spanner, it seems, soon has his own recording equipment set up; unfortunately, by the time he does, the convention hall is busier and louder, and Shoichi won't really be able to hear Spanner's words once he starts his own video log. He'll definitely be able to see when Spanner unhooks his webcam and holds it up to get an over-the-crowd angle to, presumably, show off Shoichi's presence to his own fans. There's a slight grin on his face as he talks into the camera afterwards, too.
When lunchtime rolls around, a bemused Spanner finds himself with multiple congoers bringing him food. However, he appears to have already gotten his revenge; over the course of the day, and indeed over the course of the con, Shoichi will have a number of fans giving him presents of over-the-counter antacids, and taking selfies of him. If he goes online to check, he'll find Spanner issued his own promise - a free t-shirt to everyone who sends him a selfie of them giving Shoichi antacids.
Had he heard - or read something online about - Shoichi's own offer, or has their rivalry reached the point where they just naturally do similar things at similar times?]
[Funnily enough, it takes the fourth person to do this before it occurs to Shoichi to check online. In his defense- it’s not exactly a secret that he’s in possession of a stomach to rebel on him. By this point, both Spanner and himself have made references to it, if not outright jabs. (It’s a traitor to his body. Shoichi will shittalk it all he wants.)]
[But when he does? He can’t help but just double over and laughing, right there on live camera.]
[If nothing else, it definitely helps to liven up the con, and Shoichi finds himself grinning from that point onwards until the convention hall finally empties, and everyone is cleaning up. Packing away his things, he calls across the aisle.]
Four lunches, Shoichi. [Spanner's laconic amusement is obvious, even if he's not looking up from his screen. He's in the middle of ending his gaming stream for the con, making some wrap-up announcements and giving heads-up about tomorrow's activities.] You should've specified more about the quality of lunch, though. One was a Happy Meal, and someone else brought in a sub sandwich. One was just a sandwich. [He pauses.] The last one was actually a bento box. I gave her a shirt and a lollipop.
[Spanner's weeaboo nature is well known among his fans, and most of the gifts he gets from his followers are Japanese-themed. Clearly the girl Spanner is talking about was a joint fan of the two of them.]
I should have made you help me eat it all. You had the antacids for it, right?
Oh, I think the Happy Meal suits you perfectly, Mr. 450 lollipops.
[For anyone else, he'd be a little more respectful of them cleaning up, but he's seen Spanner multitask at levels more extreme than this. So he just leans against his booth, hands pressed against the surface, and watches him.]
I think I'll have antacids for the rest of my life, honestly. Anyway, you know as well as I do that the bento probably made up for the other three.
I wasn't arguing my suitability, but I figured you were trying to make sure I got proper nutrition. [Spanner gives him a quick, sly look before his eyes go back to his laptop.] I'm not sure how well you succeeded.
The bento was definitely the best. [He sounds pleased and unashamed as he says it, too.] You didn't really think your plan through very well in any sense, though. How were you expecting me to get all those lunches and still be hungry for dinner?
At this point, Spanner, I’ll be happy if you have any food in you that isn’t pure sugar.
[Even if, yes yes, he knows that Spanner’s lollipops are more healthy than the storebought ones. At the counter, he huffs out a laugh.]
First of all, I doubted you would eat all of them, although I won’t be surprised if the bento was the most you’ve ever had for lunch. Second, I know your sleep schedule. I’m fully prepared for us to have a late dinner just so that you won’t get yourself sick from too much food.
[This place is a con hotspot- he knows there have to be a few places that stay up long enough.]
[Spanner finally finishes what he's doing on his laptop and closes it, at which point he's free to turn in his chair and give Shoichi his full attention. Which is always a little significant, with Spanner; it makes the regard of those pale blue eyes almost intimidating, just from how intent he can he when he's not multitasking.]
So what did you want to do until then?
[He hadn't meant the question suggestively. But something about really letting himself focus on Shoichi, and Shoichi's being so close, suddenly brings back what happened earlier in the day in a rush. And his innocent question abruptly feels suggestive, if only because of the thoughts that start running through his mind.]
[God, but he doesn’t think he’ll ever be prepared to take that stare on. Electricity crackles and curves all along the complete length of his spine whenever he has to take it in, and even makes him feel a little breathless although he knows his lungs are perfectly clear. So out of it, he doesn’t even really register Spanner’s words, not on a deep level.]
We could always head back to the hotel.
[...Wait- As if just realizing what the possible implications of his words, Shoichi fumbles his words out hastily.]
T-To kill time! And we should probably drop our stuff off there anyway, right?
[Spanner grins as Shoichi completely flop-sweats. He doesn't think he'll ever get tired of Shoichi's awkward side. It's adorable, every time he sees it. He's sure it frustrates the hell out of Shoichi, not being as cool as he clearly wants to be, but...it's still cute.
Besides, there's an authenticity to Shoichi's flailing that he prefers over any amount of manufactured confidence.]
Hotel it is, then. [And he starts packing up his gear.] Maybe we can think of other stuff to do on the way.
[Oh. Oh. He sees what’s going on here, and he makes sure to utilize the best flat look he can. The effect is lost by the flush on his face, but, listen. He’s doing his best.]
And I’m sure it will absolutely be a PG-rated way to pass the time.
[Honestly, he kind of wants Spanner to look at him with that intent gaze and makeout with him again, but- is that moving too fast? He’s never been great at dating, and also romance in media is full of lies, so he’s pretty sure he shouldn’t leap that far ahead. For now, he just shrugs and flashes a smile at him in the same way.]
Yeah. [Spanner doesn't mind the noncommittal answer. The way he sees it, it doesn't matter how fast or slow they go, provided they're both happy with it. And in Spanner's experience...he's happy pretty much anytime Shoichi is involved.
He definitely hopes whatever they settle on involves them kissing again, though.]
We taking a cab, or did you want to try to navigate the public transportation?
I think if the two of us got in a cab together and someone got a picture of that, the rumors would be insane on the internet. [Fishing out his phone, he checks something.] Buses should still be running anyway. Got everything?
Yep. [Spanner pats the bag.] Lead the way. I'm not that hungry yet, but I might be by the time we get our stuff dropped off. Especially if we wind up lost on the bus line. [Which is a possibility in a new city for anyone, but an extra high possibility for technophiles like them. If either of them touch their phone at all between now and getting back to their hotel - and it's all but guaranteed they both will - it'd be easy for them to get lost in their phones and not note when their stop comes.]
Japanese. [The answer is immediate. Did you think it would be anything else, Shoichi? The raised eyebrow Spanner gives him shows that Spanner is self-aware enough to be surprised that Shoichi even asked the question.]
Spanner, a quick question. [He leans close, eyebrows quirked up and smile teasing.] Would you ever get tired of eating Japanese food, one meal after the other?
No, but we’re raised on it. We have an excuse. [Holding the door open for Spanner, he grins at him.] You know, now that we’ve met in real life, probably the only next step is actually taking you to Japan for real one day.
Hm...too bad we can't use the trip for channel content, but our fans would definitely notice if we both went to Japan at the same time. We might have to keep it quiet...
[Spanner doesn't really mind that thought. Keeping it between just the two of them...being able to do whatever they want with each other, without thinking about their channels and fanbases at all...
His regret that they can't make it into content is more of a practical concern. They can't make money back on this trip through content or advertising. That makes the trip harder to arrange. Plus, even if they come up with good excuses, they'll both be taking video hiatus for that time...
Well, maybe one of them can go on hiatus and the other can queue up videos to upload while they're gone.
