Too bad, you already ate up all the fish I got you. You can't be hungry again that quick!

Well, kind of. It's weird. It's more like resting, but you're still half-awake.

[Rin's never really thought about it since everyone in the shiver does the same thing. He knows land animals like seals work differently. In fact, sharks use that to their advantage, to sneak up on some of them while they're napping and not have to worry about them dashing off.]

That's weird. Don't sharks have to like...keep swimming or they can't breathe?

[Maybe that's a myth; Nagisa doesn't really know.]

That's what I mean. We kind of nap while we're still moving. I don't really know how it works. It's not something we really think about. We just don't need to think to swim. It just happens. It's our nature, after all.

You're meant more for flopping around on land so you have to sleep.

...what if you swam away in your sleep? Like, all the way across the ocean?

That's not actually possible. We don't even swim that fast when we rest. The ocean's huge!

[Haruka swings his head from side to side, shaking the water from his own hair and flicking into place. And looking relatively untroubled by this all. He regards Rin with a calm air, getting a good look at him in the sunlight.]

Good thing you aren't any other shark.

You better. I don't want to have wasted my time for nothing.

[It's a pain to split her tail into legs, and to walk around on land so long. Sirens are water creatures at their core, after all. She can tell it's only a matter of time before she starts getting fidgety on plain earth.]

It hasn't happened yet. And sharks have been resting like that since before I was born.

[Rin falters a bit under the stare. It's him feeling like a piece of meat for once. He's never seen anyone look at him like that. Even in his most boastful moments, he can't really see any reason for someone to.]

... well, no. Obviously I'm a shark unlike any you'll ever see.

[As if Haruka is likely to see any other sharks anytime soon.

But still, how can the merman have such confidence in him?]

I've been living here so far... you wouldn't believe what some people leave on the beach for food.

I would have thought you'd be done with my company as soon as you had your treasure. Don't tell me that you need an escort back.

[She probably did, unless she was keeping track of where they were headed, but Mukuro would take mercilessly mocking and teasing her as payment. Considering she was already doing so with him, it was only proper.]

That can't be healthy for you, to just eat junk that's been left on the beach!

I eat plenty of other things too. Don't worry, like I said.

[The returned mockery makes her narrow her eyes, but it’s actually not in a bad way. Sirens are social only to feed off of entire ships. Meetings between them are naturally full of venomous jabs. This is par for the course… Just with a human. It’s kind of a new experience, in a way.]

You better, leaving a poor defenseless girl all on her own in a new land would be just heartless. [And just like that, she drops the innocent act with a scoff.] Anyway, it’d be a pain to have to figure out a way back on land.

[She could figure out a way through the water… but that would really depend on the port and its location.]

[At the word 'defenseless', Mukuro started chuckling, laughter spilling from his lips despite the fact that he pressed the back of his hand against his mouth as if to stem the noise. He shot her an amused look, clearly not buying that argument in the least.]

Kufufufu you're hardly defenseless, siren.

[Still, he turned his gaze forward again, mouth still curved upwards.]

We'll be in the next village by noon. My followers should be there and you'll get your reward.

[He chuckles, splashing a bit of water onto the boat.]
